Yes! I visited Portugal about 15 years ago and absolutely loved it. My father and sister and I stayed in Lisbon along the Tagus near the famous monastery, listened to the fado...We went on a day trip to Sintra, climbed up to the castle, heard a nightingale...just a wonderful time. One of my favorite memories of that trip was the school of the Prince Henry the Navigator, the end of the world, imagining Columbus and other explorers looking out those cliffs and sailing off into the unknown. A very beautiful, friendly, undiscovered country, with great food!

Bom dia! Obrigado!
Thank you for remembering those names! Yes, we stayed in a hotel on the square, directly across from Mosterio dos Jeronimos--Monastery of the Brothers (?) of St. Gerome. It was lively but my (widowed) father's girlfriend complained about the noise. She complained a lot ..LOL. so unknown to US, even well traveled ones.Travel was the great passion of my parents. We were not rich because that was what they spent their money on and I was truly blessed to get to go along. I learned tolerance. Appreciation for other languages, races, cultures, religions, history, art, so much, so young. Lisbon. What a great undiscovered city. We had coffee in the morning in a grand coffee shop just around the corner. Those blue tiles--azulehas? sorry, bad spelling. And my sister and I walked up through the Alfama and heard fado.
I have more stories. Tell me one of yours? Maybe about your opinion of Americans?...I have been so ashamed of our gov't up until Obama was elected. Now I am proud again. Salud! (no, that's Spanish) um...Salute! (nope, Italian)
Anyway, Cheers!

Olá Jocelyn!
Agradeço mais uma vez a tua resposta!
Thats a passion for me ,travelling,I already been in severals countries of europe and on 2008 I went to U.S.A,I enjoyed to be there, except the hours of travelling, nine hours,no one deserves,eh!!eh!! When I arrived to Orlando,I looked like a "zombie",eh!!eh!!
For me is a honour to enter in your country without a visa,I only need the passport that now is electronic, but it was funny on the plain before we land, all passengers completed a green paper and we answered to "weird questions",I dont remember what are them, but I do remember to all us laugh a lot,eh!I eh!! But,is understable!
I heard a lot of stories of Americans and one of them it was about a lady that gave bath to his cat and after she putted him in microwaves to dry and after she putted the company that make it on court because on instructions didnt say that was she couldnt put the cat in there and won the action,I suppose is absurd!
The other one I Watched on Tv and I laughed I lot,I must confess,an english report maked a severals questions that people walk on streets, but in here at few years ago, most of students didnt know who was the 1st king of Portugal...Thanks God that you changed of president, this time didnt need a court to choose a president....It was funny, because evrytime i speak portuguese with my sister and my niece, there always a person, asking "where you came from?" Portugal! "Ah! Cristiano Ronaldo"!Is a honour for me!The americans for me,have a marvellous sense of humor!
The blue tiles,is called Azulejos! Did you try Cream Pastel in Confeitaria of Belém?
Oh! You visited Alfama and heard fado! My favourite singer is Mariza! she went to "David Letterman Show",singing "Oh Gente da minha Terra"!(my favourite song)!
In here we say "Adeus",but I prefer "Até já"!
Fica bem Jocelyn!

Multo prazer em cohce-lo, Carla. Rapido reposta! Qiera falar Poruguese sem livro--e dificil. Mi livro e mau.
Sim! I too have filled out the weird questions on the green paper. And I have been a "travel zombie" many times!
That story about the cat in the microwave is what we call an urban legend. A story that is told from one person to another, but is not true.
I am glad to hear Americans are still welcomed in Portugal. There is a great history to your country that is not taught here. Maybe a mention of Brazil, todo!
I also visited the Museum of Carriages near the Palacio di Joao (?) So ornate.
I have been thinking about the earthquake in Lisbon, centuries ago, with the tragedy of Haiti. There was a great man who rebuilt your capitol city better than before. I can't remember his name.
I think you mean Jay Leno--Jaywalking--asking dumb people easy questions on the street? I like David Letterman much better. I watched his first show on NBC and also CBS, and still today. Very funny man, good host. What other American TV shows do you watch? Of course, CSI...
fica bem!

Olá Jocelyn, muito obrigada por teres respondido!
Well, the man that you talk is Marquês de Pombal, the real name was Sebastião de Carvalho e Melo,it was him that rebuilt big part of Lisbon, the people on that occasion, said he "was crazy",making such transformation,we didnt have so many people and the carriages will have so much space to walk that will lost and there is sentence of him that I loved, after the earthquake someone said "And now?", "Burried the death people and give food to alive people"!Did you Know, that at few months ago, this replica passed in here,it was 1h30 am,I was sleeping but many people felt it,it was a half of second,we had many lucky! This earthquake that happened in Lisbon,it was at 1755 in 1st November, its public holiday in here, for you is "Thanks Giving" for us is "Saints Day" is tradition to put flowers for those that already been gone....
Here that come my list of americans Tv Shows:
On Cable Tv I have two favourite channels: AXN and Fox Crime!
On AXN,I watch: CSI,CSI New York,CSI Miami(i love the three!!),NCIS,Without Trace(last season,snf...snf...I "gonna cry"),E.R(we are watching the last season),Castle,Medium,Criminal Minds(next season is begin this week,finally!) and Mentalist!
On Fox Crime,I watch; Boston Legal(what I laugh with them),Sue Thomas Fbye,Num3ers,the old seasons of the tree CSI(NY,Miami and Vegas),Murder she said(is a canadian serie)Law and Order,Law and Order CI,Law and Order SVU.
On the other channels of cable Tv,specially on "Sic Mulher" I watched "Tyra Banks",Oprah,D,Phil but I must confess is rare...and sometimes I watch on Sic Radical,Jay Leno,Connan and there is another one,but David Letterman in here showed on brazilian channel called "GNT",I dont have it this one on my tv,is additional channel! On generalist channels,SIC,Tvi and Rtp I watch:
On Sic,I watch "NCIS Los Angeles",

on TVI,I didnt see the series because passed to late... and in RTP begun "True Blood" this one is showed on Saturdays afternoon....We are almost on the end of "Idolos",in there the original is "American Idol",Yesterday was a programm full of emotion,we are on 3th season in here, sometimes I see the original on channel "Fox Life" so only kept two people,I like our version,in here is shared by two persons(Claudia Vieira and João Manzarro) but yours is very good!
Thanks God that foreign series in here have subtitles are not doubled...
For curiosity CSI in Portuguese means ; Crime Sob Investigação and a portuguese channel called SIC written on contrary is CSI!
We are almost on end of nine season of CSI and there is a blond young girl that have sometimes a "firlt" with Greg and I wonder to know, she will appear on next season?
Oh! You visited the " Museum National of Carriages"and the palace is the "Belém Palace"it was on there that our king .João V died, is now the official residence of our president of republic but he didnt live in there,he lives with his family in building at Lisbon and you can met his wife making shopping on the next grocery.

Pombal. That was the name I wanted to remember. What a great saying from a far-seeing man. To see a better city in all that destruction, an opportunity to improve while grieving for their dead. Thank you for helping with those names too--Belem, Joao V, they are beautiful names.
I too have felt 2 very minor earthquakes. In NYC and in a town called Saratoga Springs, NY. Both times it was the weird feeling in the atmosphere, unease, not so much the movement of the earth. I learned later what happened.
I will write more later, I am going to write a new chapter tonight , You have good taste in TV shows! I like many of them too.
Ate ja!
